Last Thursday, as a part of LGBTQ Latinx Awareness Week at OUTMemphis, we celebrated Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
To honor those LGBTQ folks who left us far too soon, we transformed the piano into an altar, decorated with the holiday’s traditional accoutrements and photos of loved ones lost.
Since then, people have come by every day to add pictures to the altar. We are overjoyed that this activity has been so well received, and want to invite community members to continue to drop by and add pictures of their loved ones throughout the month. The Dia de los Muertos altar will stay up throughout the month of October.
If you put up a picture and want it back at the end, please come by to collect your pictures on Thursday, November 1st.
If you have questions about Dia de lose Muertos, or any of the other events during Latinx Awareness Week, contact Jessie Claudio, Men’s Sexual Health Specialist.
