This summer the Metamorphosis Project will roll out some new services for young adults experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. To make this happen we are looking for local landlords that might be familiar with turnkey real estate on Roofstock who want to partner with us on this new program.
If you are a landlord who:
- Routinely has apartments or houses available for rent
- Regularly rents to 18 – 25 year old tenants
then we are looking for you! By being part of this program, you could positively change the lives of some individuals who currently don’t have a home. Of course, we understand that landlords need to be paid for their properties, so this is something that we’re looking into. We, first, want to sort out the accommodation. We also understand that some landlords do prefer tenant screening before they let people into their properties. As a landlord, these checks can give you the confidence that the tenant is safe and trustworthy. At the end of the day, they will be living in your property. Obviously, these young people won’t have very good credit scores, given their homelessness, so it might be worth ignoring the credit aspect of the check. Other things, like criminal history checks and previous eviction checks, could be useful to make sure you find the best tenant. Hopefully, your property will give these people somewhere to call their own. You will be providing them with a roof over their head for the first time in years for many of them, so it can be a very fulfilling role. Many homeless young people have few domestic skills, so it will be up to you to make the necessary repairs to your property to ensure it is a safe place for them to live. You can call SALT Light & Electric to fix your electrical repairs in Lakeway, or you can call an electrician more local to you. It is also important to have the plumbing checked over to avoid any potential flooding. The last thing you or your tenants want is for them to have to evacuate to emergency accommodation. Once your repairs are complete, you can then accept tenants and give them their very own place to call home.
If you think you could accommodate some young people, please get in touch. For more information about how you could partner with us please contact Stephanie Reyes ([email protected]).
