Next Week at the Center

  • Monday, 12/10:
    • We Care Call Volunteer Training, 10:00a-12:00p: This a volunteer training for the We Care Call program. If you are an LGBTQ adult 55+ and you want to volunteer this program, email Senior Services for more information.
    • Perpetual Transition, 6:00p-7:30p: Perpetual Transition is a support and social group for transgender people in the Memphis metropolitan area that has been meeting since 2005. Perpetual Transition is safe and confidential, and is open to transgender people of any variety. For more information email Kayla Gore, Transgender Services Specialist.
    • HIV testing, 6:00p-9:00p: Need an HIV test? Come to OUTMemphis and get a free, rapid, oral swab HIV test. No blood and your results will be ready in 20 minutes. For more information, email Martavius Hampton, Sexual Health Program Director.
    • Outflix Open Meeting, 7:00PM (At Crosstown Concourse in front of French Truck): Outflix is our annual LGBTQ film festival, and this is an open meeting for people interested in joining the effort. New members are welcome! If you are interested in volunteering and helping out with Outflix, there are lots of ways you can contribute. We have volunteer positions for screening feature films and short films, setting up at the festival and selling/taking tickets, spreading the word on social media, finding sponsorships, and much much more.  For more information, visit our website or email us!
  • Tuesday, 12/11
    • Volunteer Orientation, 5:00p-6:00p: Are you interested in becoming a volunteer and helping us help our LGBTQ community?  Then we’d love to have you!  We hold these orientations twice a month, after whih you can sign up for volunteer shifts.  For more information, check out our website.
    • Volunteer Appreciation Party, 6:30p-9:00p: Join us as we celebrate the amazing volunteers that helped make OUTMemphis a welcoming, empowering home for LGBTQ people in 2018! At OUTMemphis, volunteers support the work we do at every level. When visiting the community center, often a volunteer is the first smiling face you see. Volunteers greet guests, run tours, connect LGBTQ people to vital community resources, conduct HIV tests, mentor youth, and lead social groups. From the front desk to the board of directors, volunteers are a vital part of the OUTMemphis family. Join us as we celebrate the amazing contributions volunteers have made to the center this year!
    • Tu Ppl: LGBTQIA+ Latinx Supportive Social Group, 7:00p-8:00p: Tu Ppl is a social and supportive group for Latinx/Hispanic members of the Memphis community that also identify with the LGBTQIA+ community. Tu Ppl is a space for LGBTQIA+ Latinx people come together to bond over these two identities. Tú Ppl es un grupo social y de apoyo para gente Latina/Hispana en Memphis que tambien es parte de la comunidad LGBTQIA+.   • Wednesday, 12/12:
    • Trans Committee Meeting, 5:00p-6:30p: Are you looking for more ways to get involved with Outreach and Programming at OUTMemphis? Join us every SECOND Wednesday for our Committee Meeting. Open Meeting!!! This committee will focus on organizing our annual Trans Awareness Week, create trans-specific events, and more! The meeting will start promptly at 5 pm.     • Meristem Women’s Book Club, 7:00p-9:00p: The Meristem Book Club is named after the feminist/LGBT bookstore some of you will remember on Cooper just down the street from the Center (1990-1998). Meristem cells are the point of new growth in plants — like stem cells in humans. The book club is named after the bookstore in honor of our past and with hope for our future.The purpose of the book club is to read and explore written works by women and LGBT authors, and to foster a community of support with like-minded women. Membership is open to women (LBT and straight-identified) in the Memphis area who want to read and discuss books by women and LGBT authors.  For more info check out our website or send us an email.

    • Seeking Serenity, 5:30p-6:30p: Are you LGBTQ and serving as a support person for an alcoholic? Join us for this weekly, confidential group. For more information, send us an email or check out our website.
