Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated on March 31st, and this year OUTMemphis and The Haven are partnering to screen Major! a documentary film about the life of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy, a transgender woman and lifelong advocate for LGBTQ and transgender rights.

Miss Major’s advocacy includes the historical role she played in the Stonewall Riots, her work for incarcerated transgender women during and after her stint in Clinton Correctional Facility, her work in the late 1970s through the 1990s to support LGBTQ people living with HIV in California (and all over America), and her work as the Executive Director (now Emeritus) of the Transgender Gender Variant Intersex Justice Project. Miss Major’s work took her all over the U.S., and she now lives in retirement in Arkansas.

Major! is a documentary about her life and accomplishments, described by Miss Major as “not only a tool to present young trans women their history, but as a reminder to herself that young women still need help.”

Join us this Saturday at The Haven (206 G.E. Patterson, Memphis, TN, 38103) at 6:00p for a free screening of Major!. For more information, check out the facebook event.
