OUTMemphis’s Senior Services Program is a collection of activities specifically geared towards the LGBTQ+ and Allied 55+ population. Through these programs, the goal is to provide opportunities for interaction, education, socialization, and resources to this underserved part of our community. LGBTQ+ seniors often have a difficult time finding community and support in part because of inability to come out, isolation, hostile environments, lack of social connections, or other factors. Because of this, the Senior Services Committee at OUTMemphis has worked hard to rectify that in many ways. Here are the events planned for the next couple of months:
Seniors OUT For Coffee
This event happens once per month, every second Sunday, from 12:30p-2:30p at OUTMemphis. This event is purely social, and provides an opportunity for LGBTQ+ and Allied community members 55 and over to come together over coffee, food, and conversation. If this interested you, we encourage you to join us for a beverage and some community interaction!

Colorcopia: Art Class for Seniors
This event is one in a series of classes that the Senior Services Committee offers throughout the year. This particular class is a collaboration with Dixon Art Galleries in which they send a teacher to help students recreate artwork from famous collections using techniques and tools. This class will run for four months, starting in September, and will occur on the second Monday of each month at 11:00a.

Zentangle: Meditative Drawing Class
This unique class is the intersection of meditation and art. Zentangle is a process of mindfulness meditation using pen and paper that creates beautiful and exotic patterns. This will be the first such class, taught by Zentangle Instructor Nysha Nelson, with more such classes being a possibility depending on interest.

Seniors OUT And About: Senior Safari
Seniors OUT And About is a series of events that allows the LGBTQ+ and Allied 55+ community opportunities to go out into the world and have fun and educational experiences with each other. At this meetup, we will be attending the Senior Safari put on by Professional Network on Aging. This is a free, fun day for Seniors at the Memphis Zoo. There will be vendors, organizations, and plenty of animals! Join us and look for the folks in the OUTMemphis T-Shirts.
This event will meet on Wednesday, October 2nd @ 9:00a at Memphis Zoo.
