POSITION TITLE: Resident Coordinator 

REPORTS TO: YEC Operations Manager 

STATUS: Full Time, hourly, 36-40 hours/week 

SALARY: $17-$21/hour

OUTMemphis empowers, connects, educates, and advocates for the LGBTQIA+ community of the Mid-South. 

SUMMARY: 

OUT Memphis Youth Empowerment Center houses the Emergency and Transitional Housing Program for LGBTQIA+ identifying homeless youth, ages 18-24. The Resident Coordinator will oversee all operations of the Emergency/Transitional Housing Program and its residents. This will include creating resident activities, completing Resident intakes and exits, ensuring residents adhere to YEC rules/policies, creating schedules and calendars of events, and holding “house meetings” at least twice a month. The Resident Coordinator will also support all other Metamorphosis Project programs, as needed. 

This role has administrative responsibilities including, but not limited to, creating the YEC overnight staff schedule, completing intakes of new program participants, finding and creating community partnerships, tracking the progress of residents through data collection and analysis, and general front desk clerical duties. The Resident Coordinator will be the main point of contact for all residents. This role also will include on-call responsibilities. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide and maintain a safe, supportive, and affirming environment within the shelter at all times by communicating and enforcing shelter policies aimed at ensuring that residents remain safe throughout their stay 
  • Oversee the intake and orientation of all new residents 
  • Maintain structured environment for residents i.e. frequently updating laundry and meal schedules, posting upcoming events, sending out YEC newsletter, etc. 
  • Schedule and facilitate “house meetings” for residents at least twice a month for their feedback on YEC operations 
  • Develop creative ways to implement resident feedback into daily operations of the YEC program 
  • Develop a strong partnership with the YEC Case Managers to facilitate the best support for our residents 
  • Collaborate with the YEC Operations Manager to support all other YEC program services (YES intakes, CM follow-ups, event & program planning, etc.) 
  • Basic maintenance, organization & cleaning of facility will be required (laundry, dishes, sweeping/mopping, and supporting residents in maintaining a clean dorm) 
  • Front Desk Support (answering phones, taking messages, returning calls/emails, etc.) 
  • Create the overnight staff coverage schedule 
  • Create & implement programming, events, outings etc. for the YEC Residents for weekend days (Sat/Sun) 
  • Maintain accurate, current, and confidential records for all work with visitors and residents 
  • Secure the building nightly i.e., check all doors and windows, set alarm etc. 
  • Participation in all departmental and organization wide meetings as well as all relevant trainings 

CORE COMPETENCIES: 

  • Must be 21 years of age or older 
  • Associates degree in sociology, education, social services, health or other closely related field, OR 2 years of work experience in related field are preferred 
  • Strong interpersonal skills; advanced verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, conflict resolution knowledge, trauma informed response knowledge, eye and care for detail, project management 
  • Moderate to advance computer skills including word processing, database operations, spreadsheets, and other software systems 
  • Adept in navigating Microsoft Suite apps, including, OneDrive, Word, Task by Planner, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams 
  • Flexibility of schedule, to include evening, weekend, and overnight shifts 
  • Believes that LGBTQIA+ individuals should live in a world where everyone has equal rights, and is safe, respected, and celebrated 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds including age, ability, gender identity & expression, sexual orientation, education, and ethnicity, in a multicultural environment
